The Brazilian Navy does not hide its interest in developing an amphibious ready group, therefore recent changes have taken place in alternatives to transform itself from an anti-submarine carrier legacy force to a fully fledge amphibious one. With the acquisition of the former HMS Ocean while decommissioning former A12 Sao Paulo conventional aircraft carrier, the Navy is taking the necessary steps to transition and repurpose its force with minimal loss of personnel qualifications. KC-2 Trader and AF-1 Skyhawk conversions will continue even if these can´t operate from the A140 Atlántico. These ideas will have to cope with the thoughts of president elect Jair Bolsonaro, even with high support for military development initiatives but in need to manage the turmoil in state’s budget and Brazil’s financial markets. Such a Navy is very costly to buy and even more to maintain.
