Brazilian Army receives 96 surplus armored vehicles from the U.S.

Brazil adquired 96 armored vehicles as excess defense articles (EDA) from the United States stocks. These are 56 M-109A5 howitzers and 40 M992 Field Ammunition Support Vehicles. Another batch of M-109A5+ are due to be shipped to Brazil in early 2019.

According to recent Foreing Military Sales (FMS) policy, the A5+ are being overhauled and upgraded in the U.S. to the Brazilian Army standard in use, with new fire calculators, INS/GPS navigation equipment and other improvements.
